Early Years

Children in the Reception class (age 4-5) follow the Early Years curriculum.  The emphasis is on learning through play activities, with a focus on the seven areas of learning of the Early Years curriculum, which are;

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development;
  • Physical Development;
  • Communication and Language;
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

These seven areas of learning lead into the Key Stage One Curriculum in Year 1.

Children are taught by Mrs Elizabeth Blasor who is supported by at least one Learning Support Assistant in the classroom and often additional help as well.

Letters and sounds are taught by way of a daily phonics session using the interactive whiteboard.  The Oxford Reading Tree scheme is used for reading, supplemented by other schemes.  Children are taught in smaller groups according to individual need.
