Year 1 (age 5–6) and Year 2 (age 6-7) follow the new 2014 Key Stage 1 National Curriculum which teaches the following subjects; English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, Design & Technology, PSHE & Citizenship, History, Geography, Music, Art and PE. We also teach RE through the Oxford Diocesan Scheme of Work.
There is a focus on teaching through topics and a creative curriculum, linking the different core and specialist subjects through a half-termly theme – for example, Travel and Transport. Timetables are broad and balanced ensuring opportunities for academic, physical, creative, social and personal development. Year 1 children sit the National Phonics screening test in June. Year 2 children have their assessment papers in the third term which take the form of teacher assessments in literacy (reading, writing, speaking/listening), mathematics and science.
